Programme note
Scents of Childhood 3, like its companions in Volumes 4 and 5, makes use of material from Schumann’s ‘Forest Scenes’, but also draws on another memorable scent from my childhood – chrysanthemums – with material from Puccini’s short string quartet ‘I Crisantemi’, the main theme quoted at the end. The material from the two works is overlaid to create new chords.
