Programme note
Scents of Childhood 1 (Homage to Robert Schumann) takes its material entirely from Schumann's 'Scenes of Childhood' using cut-and-paste and chance techniques. The idea came to me, walking in Newlands Forest, Cape Town - the scent of the pines transported me back 50 years, when as a child I walked in the same forest.
